The ILMC Association Summit presents a follow up on the latest developments that are of relevance for live music organisations on a national and international level.
Based on proposals contributed by attending associations, topics differ from the previous two editions with some overall trends emerging indicating that some common issues are becoming more relevant for associations and the live music sector in general.
This year’s agenda is influenced by legislative aspects, taxation issues, market and society developments and a political initiative by the European Commission regarding the official launch of preparatory action for Music Moves Europe – a new support programme for the music sector .

In 2017, Yourope launched its Take A Stand campaign, an awareness campaign for a civic engagement, while Live DMA introduced just recently their Open Club Day. Both measures addressing audiences, but in particular.
Take A Stand has the potential to lead across cultural issues such as the “Me Too”-movement, on which Svensk Live will explain how its working together with police and non-profit organisations to prevent sexual harassment in venues and at festivals. Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) will then lead discussion about single use plastics at festivals, and what the approaches are across the rest of Europe.

“Collection Societies & performance royalties,” almost became a classic topic, for this meeting, but nevertheless still a very vital one. APM Musicales and BDV will provide an update on their latest achievements. At the same time, disruptive business models for recorded music requires new strategies to build the professional careers of artists.
14:15 – 14:45: Due Diligence for Live Music Business Scenarios
De Concert! reports on its findings about market concentration, Dansk Live raises the question regarding diversity in the music industry and talent development. These are both crucial topics that in the long run affect entrepreneurship and business development within the live music sector. Norwegian Live Music Association will then introduce their work on accessible arenas; inspired by Attitude is Everything in the UK.

15:00 – 15:45: Autopsy of Music Moves Europe
Music Moves Europe took the first political milestone when last autumn the European Parliament approved the European Commission to launch preparatory action proceedings to install a support programme for the music sector. Associations that attended the launch will speak briefly to give their observations and opinions, followed by a thirty minute open debate about the meaning and consequences this initiative will have for the entire live music sector on an international level.
15:45 – 16:00: Conclusions and Next Steps
Winding up the day, a brief discussion on how live music associations could communicate better, and whether there is a need for a working group or loose forum of associations.
