ASSOMUSICA THANKS THE ITALIAN GOVERNMENT FOR THE MEASURES
IN SUPPORT OF THE CULTURAL, ENTERTAINMENT AND MUSICAL SECTOR
VINCENZO SPERA
“Once again Italy shows that it has great attention for a sector vital for economy and beyond”
APPEAL OF THE ASSOCIATION TO THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO EXTEND THE INTRODUCTION OF VOUCHER ALSO TO OTHER COUNTRIES
Assomusica, the Association of Organizers and Producers of Live Music Shows, which includes (almost) all the organizers of contemporary music shows, thanks the Italian Government and Minister Dario Franceschini for the measures approved to support the cultural, entertainment and music sectors.
In the words of the of Assomusica’s president Vincenzo Spera: « Once again Italy shows that it has great attention for a sector vital for the Italian economy and beyond. Unfortunately, precisely because of this vitality, it became the first victim of the global pandemic from Covid-19. Our activities are the first that have been closed and will probably be the last to be opened. Let's not forget that these activities represent an important driving force for the entire economy thanks to the positive repercussions they create in the territories».
According to Assomusica estimates, in fact, at the end of May there will be 4,200 missed events, which will result in 63 million losses in just over two months for the live sector only. To these data needs to be added also the losses linked to the related activities, which the Association estimates in no less than 130, million euros.
« It is precisely because of the interconnectedness of these now globalized sectors that it is difficult to think that each European country can solve the problem on its own - underlines the President of Assomusica. On the one hand, this worries us because, especially for live music, both the artistic world and the entire chain of suppliers and workers interact at European level ».
Because of these considerations, a shared action at European level is needed. We need other countries to apply the measures already taken by the Italian authorities in order to, above all, protects all workers in the supply chain.
«We ask the European Commission, the Parliamentarians, and the Culture Commission to extend this first lifesaver to the other countries which, through the introduction of vouchers to replace the tickets purchased, allows the spectator not to give up their concert and companies not to go to default».
In this regard, Assomusica itself is taking steps to disseminate a series of guidelines to its Associates in order to provide the necessary information to all those who have purchased tickets for concerts and shows postponed or canceled. In the document drawn up by the Association, on the basis of the provisions issued by the competent authorities, clear answers are given to issues such as the postponement / cancellation time of the concerts. Further to mention the updated list of postponed concerts, the right to reimbursement of tickets for a concert or show canceled, vouchers and all the details about their amount, use and time of issue.
« At this moment it is even more important to protect the work of a supply chain that sees hundreds of thousands of people without protections and hardly included in regulatory and welfare frameworks » concludes Vincenzo Spera. « We therefore ask Europe to identify a mechanism that can offer a guaranteed minimum wage to all workers in the live music industry. Furthermore, in order to be able to start again, we also ask for companies in the sector to grantee a tax exemption period of at least 1 year and the possibility of accessing subsidized loans. We will bring these proposals to a European level with our international partners, so that live music does not die and with it our emotions ».
