ASSOMUSICA AND ELMA EXPRESS SATISFACTION
FOR THE UNANIMOUS APPROVAL OF CREATIVE EUROPE PROGRAMME
EU PARLIAMENT DOUBLES FUNDS FOR CULTURAL SECTOR
Assomusica, Italian Association of Organisers and Producers of Live Music Shows, and ELMA, European Live Music Association, express their satisfaction for the unanimous approval by the Culture Committee of the European Parliament of the Creative Europe 2021-2027 Programme, which doubled EU funds from 1,4 bln (2014-2020) to 2,8 bln for the cultural sector, including support for live music and concerts.
President of Assomusica Vincenzo Spera declared “Finally live music has been recognised as an important asset for the European cultural and creative sector, after beign ignored for too long. MEP Silvia Costa and the shadow rapporteurs carried out a very fruitful work, as did the committee, which in a very short timeframe managed to express a position on such important text for culture, creativity and distribution of artworks.”
Also thanks to the committment of Assomusica, the music sector will have new dedicated financing instruments and support for live shows will not have to compete with other forms of art. This will result in easier mobility for european artists within the Union, favoring young talents and cultural diversity.
The sectorial focus on music follows the great results of the pilot project Music Moves Europe, launched in 2018 by the Commission upon request of market stakeholders including Assomusica. The Parliament has confirmed for the future European budget a dedicated line funding and annual calls for projects dedicated to the music sector. Investments in the cultural sector represent a great opportunity for European young talents and SMEs. In Italy live music is constantly growing: between 2012 and 2017 grew an average of 10% year-on-year.
The music industry is very dynamic at european level: it generates a 25 bln turnover and employs 1.2 billion people. The new programme foresees actions dedicated to support a network of university radios which will be communicating Europe to young people.
“ We hope that the Parliament can swiftly confirm this outstanding achievement” said Assomusic President “and that national Governments will not hesitate to seize the opportunities granted by the new Programme”.
